Defensive back Justin Bethel, from tiny Presbyterian College, stands 6-feet tall. That makes the top of those boxes roughly 60 inches off the ground.
Bethel's official vertical leap at the combine was "only" 39.5 inches, which was tops for a defensive player and fifth overall. Obviously, jumping on a box in a locker room isn't the same as that official combine leap since the latter involves a straight-legged jump, not a bent-leg leap.
The senior cornerback told CNBC's Darren Rovell that he was unaware his locker room clip had made its way to YouTube.
A video like this helps Bethel's public profile but is unlikely to do much inside an NFL team's draft room. It's tough to imagine that viral clips have much sway with NFL general managers, at least until Vinny Cerrato gets another job.
If Bethel is selected this weekend, he'd be the first player from his alma mater to be drafted since 1969. Scouts label him a late-round prospect. They're worried about his lack of college competition and catch-up speed but praise his intelligence, athleticism and, presumably, box-jumping abilities.
