When Sanya Richards, the girlfriend of cornerback Aaron Ross, ran the 400m in the Beijing Olympics, he couldn't be there to support her. He had to attend training camp for the New York Giants. For the 2012 Olympics, his new team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, has already promised that he will get to cheer Richards-Ross, now his wife, in person.
Before he even signed with the Jaguars during free agency, he set up the trip to London. He is happy his new team supports his family.
"That's really huge," Ross said Wednesday. "It speaks volumes about what they're trying to preach here. They preach family first here, and they're not just preaching it. They're actually showing it firsthand. It was important to me and they made it happen."
Richards-Ross still has to qualify for the Olympic Team at the U.S. Team Trials in June. After winning relay gold in Beijing and being a part of the relay team who won gold at the world championships, she is expected to make the team.
The women's 400m individual events will span three days of August 7-9, but the relay is not until August 14 and 15. He said he doesn't plan on attending until her final race to attend as much training camp as possible.
