Maryland pulls off hidden ball trick in NCAA lacrosse tournament

The hidden ball trick, a custom of Little League fields and inspirational sports movies for decades, made an appearance over the weekend in an unlikely place: the NCAA lacrosse tournament.

Maryland players pulled off the trick play during a first-round game against ACC rival North Carolina. You may have to watch the clip a few times before you see how they did it, which is probably as good an indication as any that it was executed successfully:

The exchange from seniors Grant Catalino and Brian Farrell was described as "lucky" by the Associated Press. That seems to be demeaning characterization of a play that took planning, skill, patience and execution. Nobody saw it coming! It worked like a charm! They deceived everyone! The trick was the lacrosse equivalent of the end of "The Sting."

Maryland went on to win the game, 13-6.
