Liberty junior’s first career three is a 35-foot game winner

It didn't come on a national stage like Austin Rivers' game winner the previous night, but Liberty's Antwan Burrus may have trumped the Duke star in terms of degree of difficulty.

With the Flames trailing host Charleston Southern by two and 1.9 seconds remaining in Thursday night's matchup, David Minaya heaved a baseball pass to Burrus just across the mid-court stripe. Burrus took one dribble, saw he had the space he needed to get off a shot and buried a 35 footer as time expired, touching off a wild celebration on the Liberty bench and giving the Flames a dramatic 75-74 victory.

"When he didn't jump to block it, I knew it had a chance," Burrus told the school's official website. "When it went in, it was kind of unreal."

Burrus, a 6-foot-6 junior, certainly wouldn't have been the obvious choice to attempt a game-winning three. He'd yet to attempt a shot from behind the arc this season and had missed the lone previous three-pointer he'd taken in his college career.

"We thought he'd be the guy they might not guard," Liberty coach Dale Layer told the school's official athletics website. "We just had him turn, take a dribble and shoot it. I knew he would get off a good shot."
